Slaven Bilic revives a bit of faith at West Ham United
A controversial Antoine Griezmann penalty gave Atletico Madrid a slender 1-0 lead against Leicester. The Spanish giants were tipped to dispatch the Premier League team with ease but were anything but convincing. Leicester will certainly feel lucky to come away with only a 1-0 deficit after being pressurized for most of the game. The English Champions will also feel they are in with a chance in the home leg at the King Power Stadium.
Controversial Penalty
The penalty awarded to Antoine Griezmann was subject to scrutiny. Griezmann who went on a fantastic counter-attacking run was fouled by Marc Albrighton just outside the area. The actual contact was made outside the penalty box but referee Jonas Eriksson awarded a penalty which was dispatched by Griezmann. Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare expressed his disappointment with the decision after the game.
“It is a really disappointing decision by the referee, It’s a key moment in the game. He has to get that one right, he can’t guess on those things. It’s a definite free-kick but it’s out of the box. It’s the key decisions you want correct.” said Shakespeare
Atletico Fail To Convince
Atletico Madrid have made two Champions League finals in the last three years. Los Rojiblancos were however rather poor and failed to gain a convincing lead to carry into the second leg. While they still remain firm favorites, it’s hard to see them progressing beyond the semis if they continue to play similarly.
