Five Major Transfers That Could Still Happen

August 11, 2017Leave a commentBlog, NewsBy Amar Jasika

With just under three weeks left to the end of the 2017/18 transfer window, clubs all over Europe will be going into hyper-mode as they look to strengthen key positions and add quality depth ahead of this years campaign in their respective countries. There are still a number of big names that are expected to move and i’ll give you a rundown of the five most anticipated transfers we could see happen by the end of August.

Kylian Mbappe

After a magical spell at Monaco last season it is no wonder that this highly-talented 18-year-old has been one of the biggest transfer targets all year, with teams like Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG and Manchester City all lining up insane amounts of money to land the young Frenchman.

The coveted teenager has been a subject of ongoing speculation mostly linking him with a move to Real Madrid, but reports have now emerged that PSG are readying a bid rumoured to be worth €150m in an attempt to further bolster their squad after their record-breaking capture of Neymar last week. The interest is there, and it is increasingly likely that Mbappe will be off to greener pastures before the windows end.

Philippe Coutinho

Various reports have suggested that Coutinho has asked Klopp to ‘consider’ a bid from Barcelona as the Brazilian would be interested in a move, although he would not force the transfer and would stay committed to Liverpool if they are unable to negotiate a deal.

According to the latest reports, Liverpool have rejected a second bid from Barcelona this week which was around €100m and stated that they will not sell the player for any price. The Catalan giants are expected to come back with an improved bid, however, and we should also keep in mind that Liverpool were just as confident of keeping Luis Suarez right before he departed for Nou Camp.

Ousmane Dembele

The highly-rated Dortmund youngster has found himself to be one of Barcelona’s main transfer targets following the sale of Neymar to PSG, with the Spanish giants considering him to be a perfect long-term replacement.

It is believed that BVB are holding out for €150m for Dembele, a price they deem fair in today’s inflated market, already rejecting a bid of around €100m. Many reports across Europe, however, are stating that it’s only a matter of time before the move is completed. The player himself tried to force a move yesterday by missing training, after which the club rightfully suspended him.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

The young Arsenal star is set for a move away from The Emirates this year, with neighbors Chelsea looking the most probable suitors. While there have been rumors for a few months now about his potential departure, tabloids in England have now picked up on a £35m bid from Chelsea to test their resolve on the versatile midfielder.

Chamberlain has only a year left on his contract and is widely believed to prefer a change of scenery, with his potential for playing either wing back position something that Antonio Conte would relish adding to his squad.

Virgil van Dijk

The sought after Dutchman gave a major boost to the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City after handing in a transfer request to Southampton last week. Dijk expressed his views publicly and stated that his goal is to challenge for major honors and compete against Europe’s top clubs, something he couldn’t do at Southampton.

With City showing a lack of determination so far and Liverpool looking to avoid a repeat of the embarrassing scandal from earlier in the window when they had to apologise for tapping-up the defender, it looks like Chelsea are the favorites to land the powerful centre-back.
