League leaders Chelsea will be looking to bounce back this Wednesday after a 2-1 weekend defeat at home to Sam Allardyce’s Crystal Palace. Chelsea are still 7 points clear of 2nd place Tottenham but the weekend’s loss saw a run of 13-consecutive wins at Stamford Bridge ended. Victor Moses was absent against Palace and is doubtful again here, forcing Conte to use Pedro as a right-wing back. Against an improved Manchester City side, the much talked of Eden Hazard will need to be on song. Both teams have scored in Chelsea’s last 7 league matches, which is somewhat surprising given their defensive solidity since changing to a back 3. Chelsea have scored 3 or more goals in 4 of their last 6 league games in Stamford Bridge while 5 of the last 6 league games at Stamford Bridge have seen Over 2.5 goals.
After United were held by Everton yesterday evening, Manchester City have an opportunity to further consolidate their top 4 status with a result here. Guardiola’s side are now 9 matches unbeaten in the Premier League and have improved defensively over recent months. City have won 4 of their last 5 away matches to nil. They drew 2 all away at Arsenal at the weekend but will feel they should have taken all 3 points. Guardiola has toyed with 3 at the back already this season and it is possible he will go with that at Stamford Bridge. Winger Leroy Sane has 5 goals in his last 8 games and is a constant threat with his dangerous running in behind. This could be of significance as Chelsea may be without usual wing-back Victor Moses. City have scored 2 or more in each of their previous 5 away league matches and this suggests Guardiola’s men will continue to play on the front foot regardless of where they go.
With the attacking quality on show here you’d have to fancy goals. Over 2.5 goals is available at 10/11 with William Hill with around 8/11 offered elsewhere. This has landed in 5 of Chelsea’s last 6 home matches while Man City have shown they score goals away from home. Over 1.5 Chelsea team goals at 23/20 also seems an appealing price, Chelsea will be keen to avenge Saturday’s loss. This selection has landed in 5 of their last 6 and 9 of their last 11 league matches at The Bridge. With City’s defensive frailties, this looks great value.
