It is believed that Everton talisman Romelu Lukaku has rejected a 140,000-a-week contract extension today which will undoubtedly spark some interest from multiple different clubs. The Belgian striker has admitted his desire to play within continental competitions, however where is Lukaku most likely to go?
One of the stand out teams that have been interested in Lukaku’s services for transfer window after transfer window is Atletico Madrid. However, this summer may be the time that Lukaku will make the switch to the Vicente Calderon. Atletico are probably the most likely candidate for Lukaku’s signature as reports have shown that Griezmann is becoming unsettled at the Rojiblancos, with his next destination likely to be Manchester United. Therefore, the Rojiblancos will need a replacement for their star-man and Lukaku may be the lethal striker that Atletico are looking for.
However, due to the success within recent times, its plausible that Romelu Lukaku could make a return to Stamford Bridge. Already familiar with the set up of the club, the Belgian international will undoubtedly fit in at Chelsea, especially with the Belgian constituent of Hazard, Courtois and Batshuayi in the side. However, Lukaku is unlikely to gain a starting position over Diego Costa which may limit his playing time.
A team that is in need of a target man for future years is Manchester United. Don’t get me wrong, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is doing the job perfectly fine at the moment. However, despite being a self-proclaimed god, how much longer is he going to be able to score goals for? At the age of 36, not much longer. Despite not having the technical ability of Zlatan, Lukaku would provide a like for like replacement physically for the Swede. And with 19 goals this season, he has proven himself within the Premier League. Additionally, Lukaku is managing to score a high number of league goals a season with the midfield support of Gareth Barry and Tom Cleverly. Just imagine the damage the Belgian would cause with the likes of Pogba and Mata providing the support.
An unlikely candidate who is most defiantly in the running for Lukaku’s signature is French giants Paris Saint-Germain. Despite Cavani scoring goals for fun this season within Ligue 1, the team from the French capital has lacked some attacking depth since the departure of Zlatan. Although Ligue 1 isn’t as competitive as the Premier League and La Liga, PSG are able to offer consistent Champions League football which teams such as Manchester United may not be able to offer next season.
Despite a large amount of interest from multiple clubs, Lukaku’s contract doesn’t expire until the summer of 2019. Therefore the Merseyside club will attempt to do their upmost to keep their talisman in an Everton shirt for the foreseeable future.
