Sevilla v Leicester: Pre-Match Analysis

Sevilla v Leicester: Pre-Match Analysis

Sevilla qualified for this stage 2nd in their group, behind Juventus. Sevilla lie 3rd in La Liga and come into this game 8 matches unbeaten. Jorge Sampaoli’s side won 2 of their 3 home group games, both of those wins were to nil. Sevilla kept 5 clean sheets in their 6 group games and have kept clean sheets in each of their last 3 La Liga games. Steven N’Zonzi has been revitalised under Sampaoli at the base of the Sevilla midfield while Samir Nasri and Franco Vasquez are more expressive ahead of him. Sampaoli has been flexible in terms of formations this campaign.

Premier League Champions Leicester topped their group to reach this stage. The Foxes have lost 4 of their last 5 and 6 of their last 8, meaning they sit just 1 point above the relegation zone domestically. Leicester have failed to cope with loss of N’Golo Kante and thus haven’t been able to replicate the form of last season. Ranieri has tinkered with systems throughout the season but has struggled to find a winning balance. It is likely Ranieri will start with Drinkwater and Ndidi in the middle of midfield, with Okazaki playing behind Jamie Vardy as was the case last season. Leicester will likely sit deep and aim to keep the tie alive for the return fixture at the King Power.

Leicester have failed to score in 4 of their last 5, the anomaly being a cup replay against Derby. They have also lost to nil in each of their last 3 away matches. Sevilla have kept 3 consecutive clean sheets and kept 5 in 6 games in the group stage. Sevilla to win to nil is 11/10 and this looks a very appealing price. Sevilla -1 is 11/10 with Paddy Power compared to below evens with most bookmakers. This is also a noteworthy price. Ben Yedder scored in both of Sevilla’s group stage victories and is 6/5 to score anytime this Wednesday.
