Leicester City drew with Atletico Madrid at the King Power Stadium. The game finished at 1-1 and Atletico went through to the semis winning 2-1 on aggregate. Atleti went into the tie leading 1-0 courtesy an Antoine Griezmann goal in the first leg. Leicester who have had a torrid Premier League season were hoping for a miracle in Europe.
The Foxes topped their Champions League group as did opponents Atletico Madrid. The visitors took the lead through Saul Niguez’s goal in the 26th minute. Jamie Vardy’s goal in the 62nd wasn’t enough for Leicester to mount a comeback and cause an upset.
Leicester certainly have had a marvelous debut campaign in the Champions League and unfortunately the fairy-tale came to an end. Atletico on the other hand will be looking to end their Champions League heartbreak, losing in two finals in the last three years.
