Huddersfield Town v Manchester City: Pre-Match Analysis
Huddersfield have been rejuvenated in recent weeks after a blip around October and November time. The Terriers have won their last 6 consecutive games and beat both Port Vale and Rochdale 4-0 to reach this stage. David Wagner’s fluid 4-2-3-1 formation has meant Huddersfield have goal threats from wide positions as well as up top, with top goalscorer Elliot Kachunga often functioning from the right. Wagner has variation up top, with the pacey Nakhi Wells and physical Colin Quaner. The loan of Izzy Brown has also proved a revelation in recent weeks and he has 4 goals in his last 6 from the number 10 position. Huddersfield have won 6 of their last 7 at home but have kept just 1 clean sheet in their last 5 at home and 2 in their last 9 at home. Huddersfield are 8/1 to win this and 17/4 to force a replay. Top scorer Elliot Kachunga is 7/2 to score anytime and in terms of goalscorers possess the best value given the short odds of City’s forwards. Both teams have scored in Huddersfield’s last 4 games while their last 5 have had Over 2.5 goals. Both teams to score is 10/11 and Over 2.5 goals is 4/6 but both of these seem too short to back alone. Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals is 6/5 and if you fancy both teams to get on the scoresheet, this is certainly worth backing instead.
Man City come into this game on the back of 4 consecutive wins. City eliminated West Ham and Palace away from home 5-0 and 3-0 respectively. In recent weeks Guardiola’s men seem to have found their groove after a patchy middle of the season. City have won 4 of their last 5 away games in all competitions to nil and all of those have been won by a margin of 2 goals or greater. Guardiola has been strong with his FA Cup selection so far however with a Champions League tie on Tuesday against Monaco at the back of his mind, it is possible Pep may make changes. None of City’s last 7 away games have seen both teams score but 5 of those 7 have seen Over 2.5 goals. City are 4/9 to win this Saturday, 2/1 to win with both teams scoring, 7/5 to win to nil and 11/10 to win by 2 or more goals. I would be inclined to back Man City -1 but given the possibility of changes, I would want a price longer than the 11/10 offered.
